KOFIC held film meeting over Megabox filing
KOFIC said it has operated a reception center since June 25 and plans legal consultation for companies affected by Megabox JoongAng's filing.

The Korean Film Council(KOFIC) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held an emergency meeting with film industry companies on July 10, 2026(Friday) afternoon over Megabox JoongAng Inc.'s recent application to open rehabilitation proceedings, KOFIC said. The agencies reviewed industry conditions and discussed response measures.
KOFIC Chair Han Sang-jun and Minister Chae Hwi-young attended alongside executives from distributors and consigned theater operators with close business ties to Megabox JoongAng. KOFIC said the meeting gathered field views and covered government-level support measures that could be put into practice.
Representatives from distributors and consigned theater operators raised concerns about management effects and industry ripple effects linked to Megabox's application to open rehabilitation proceedings, KOFIC said. They also asked the government to take an active role in minimizing the impact on the film industry.
Han said, 'As concerns are high at film industry sites due to Megabox's application to open rehabilitation proceedings, we are listening carefully to the industry's opinions.' He added, 'The Korean Film Council will work closely with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to continue checking the damage situation and actively prepare necessary support measures so difficulties on the ground can be minimized.'
KOFIC said it has operated a 'Film Industry Impact and Difficulties Reception Center' since June 25 to receive opinions. The agency also plans to hold a briefing on rehabilitation proceedings for related companies soon and to support professional legal consultation for matters including creditor claims.
