Indieground, which the Korean Film Council established to improve distribution conditions for Korean independent and art films, said it will hold a special program called 'Cine Academy: Introduction to Short Films' with the programming group Eodumdan.

According to the Korean Film Council release, the program was planned to make Korean short films more accessible in theaters and introduce them more broadly to audiences. Eodumdan is composed of graduates from the 4th Indieground Distribution Academy class and has continued organizing screenings after completing the program.

The special program is arranged around a 'Cine Academy' concept, with guides based on viewers' familiarity with short films. It will present 8 short films in 2 sections: an introductory section for viewers new to short films and an advanced section focused on works with distinctive viewpoints and expanded forms.

The introductory section includes Park Jung-min's 'Class President Election,' Sung Da-som's 'Family Film,' Kim Da-won's 'Daldal Is My Roommate' and Kim Taeyang's 'The Dance Only I Know.' Indieground said the section is made up of works that let first-time short-film viewers experience condensed narratives, fresh ideas and individual direction without difficulty.

The advanced section includes Moon Byoung-gon's 'Safe,' winner of the Palme d'Or in the short film competition at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, along with An Yun-bin's 'Odd TV Encyclopedia: Searching for Strange People Nationwide! Episode 617: The Strange Man and the Talking Goat's Curious Cohabitation,' Park Dong-gyu's 'Memories in Space' and Oh Yu-kyung's 'Communion.' The Korean Film Council said the section brings together works recognized at domestic and international film festivals and films that contain new formal attempts.

Offline theater screenings will take place on July 17(Friday) and July 18(Saturday). After the screenings, a 'conversation with the director(GV)' will be held, and on-site events using the 'Cine Academy' concept will include academy-completion certificate goods and a photo zone.

Online screenings will run free for 7 days from July 25(Saturday) to 31(Friday) through the Indieground website, www.indieground.kr. Eodumdan said it was meaningful to present the special program with Indieground and said it hopes the program becomes an opportunity for more viewers to discover Korean short films and enjoy them more familiarly.
