SBS president sets survival as second-half focus
At a July 2 SBS event, Bang Moon-shin cited JTBC's debt-default situation indirectly and set three priorities: chosen content, AI first and revenue-linked execution.

According to Newsis, SBS President Bang Moon-shin indirectly referred to JTBC's declaration of debt default during a July 2 event at SBS's Mok-dong headquarters that combined a first-half awards ceremony with a second-half CEO message. Bang said, 'In light of the recent situation at a broadcaster, the weight of the word 'survival' feels larger and heavier than ever.'
Bang also said, 'When bluff pushes substance aside, when a lack of awareness about costs and revenue becomes widespread, and when an organization is swayed by a sense of elitism wrapped in plausible justification, the organization collapses and crisis finds that opening.' Newsis reported that he emphasized caution toward bluff, a lack of awareness and elitism.
Bang presented three execution tasks for the second half: content that is chosen, AI first and execution that leads to revenue. He said, 'Content that is chosen is the essence of our business,' and added that survival is possible only when content connects beyond ratings to sales and distribution revenue, financing such as sponsorships, commerce and IP, or copyright, expansion.
Newsis said Bang also outlined second-half priorities by division and affiliate. Drama was assigned securing global distribution revenue; entertainment programming was assigned fandom creation and revenue expansion; and news was assigned No. 1 performance at the Nagoya Asian Games in September and journalism that answers the question 'why?'.
The production division was given priorities of developing new IP and creating business models, while technology was given the priority of becoming the No. 1 AI broadcaster based on results from the AI transition, according to Newsis. SBS interpreted the direction as a future strategy shaped by a media market in which even fully sold advertising does not cover production costs.
Newsis said the event also included awards for contributors inside and outside the company who delivered achievements during the first half. Special awards went to outside contributors connected with drama, entertainment, radio and television programming.
Content that is chosen is the essence of our business.
