Hong Joo continues treatment for ovarian cancer

The MBN program 'Special Report World,' broadcast on the 2nd, showed the daily life of trot singer Hong Joo and her husband Baek Seung-il. According to the program, Hong Joo was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer, and cancer cells have spread to her lymph nodes and peritoneum.

The program said Hong Joo has continued chemotherapy after undergoing a hysterectomy. Baek Seung-il, a former ssireum player and broadcaster, was shown taking care of his wife and doing housework.

Baek said, 'I had spent my whole life only doing ssireum, and my wife filled in all my shortcomings and even took on the role of head of the household. I only began to notice each of those things after she became ill.' He also said, 'I should have treated her better. I regret it so much and I am sorry,' and was shown in tears.

Baek expressed regret that he could not be with Hong Joo on the day of her hysterectomy because of a competition. The program said Hong Joo cried while speaking about the sorrow of a difficult life, but steadied herself by saying she could not leave first while raising a young daughter.

The broadcast said Hong Joo also worked on recording music during her treatment. It described her as continuing to move forward without letting go of her wish to return to the stage.
