Park Se-mi and Kim So-yu form a semi-trot duo
The comedian and the trot singer released the semi-trot single 'What Can't I Do?' on July 6 after becoming close through look-alike stage appearances.

Comedian Park Se-mi and trot singer Kim So-yu have teamed up after becoming known for their resemblance and appearing on the same stages, the two said in an interview. Park is familiar to audiences through her 'Seo-jun Mom' character, while Kim has been associated with traditional trot vocals. Their semi-trot single 'What Can't I Do?' was released on July 6.
Park said the collaboration began after the two met often and grew closer. They first talked casually about releasing music together, saying something like, 'Why not release an album together now that things have turned out this way?' Park said the conversation then became serious and the project began.
The song presents a lighthearted version of the idea that someone can do anything for a person they love. It was written and composed by Gu Hee Sang, whose credits include Young Tak's 'Why Are You Coming Out From There' and Kim Yong-bin's 'Golden Spoon.' The track features a strong chorus, witty lyrics and a melody described as easy for anyone to sing along to.
Kim said the title reflects positivity, hope and the two performers' lives. She said the composer wrote the lyrics after looking at their paths, adding that people who know them may think, 'This is their story.' Kim also said she was not originally someone who easily embraced challenges, but that preparing the album with Park made her brighter and more positive.
Park said her own outlook had already been close to the song title. She said she had long believed that getting back up mattered more than falling down, and that the song ultimately carries that message. Some in and around the music industry have described the pair as the 'Davichi of trot' and a 'second Wink,' referring to their position as a look-alike female trot duo.
Park said she noticed their voices sounded similar only after singing together, and thanked Kim for helping her blend into the track. She said she had felt some comedic pressure, but that singing helped reduce that burden, while Kim's vocals helped ease her concerns about not being a singer. Kim said she wanted to approach their activities with the mindset suggested by the title.
The two also said they both prefer showing the left side of their faces to the camera, so they often stand side by side rather than facing each other like many duet teams. Kim praised Park's ideas, drive and detail, and said Park gives generously to people around her. Park said their relationship feels like mutual support, and added that she wants to keep singing with Kim beyond a one-time project.
Kim, who had been doing traditional trot, is taking on semi-trot with me, and because I am Se-mi, I am doing semi-trot, haha.
Preparing this album made me brighter and more positive. It feels like a turning point.
Our relationship really feels like we serve as supports for each other.
