Acting police chief returns early over Jang Yoon-gi case

KBS reported that Yoo Jae-sung, acting commissioner general of the National Police Agency, returned to South Korea early from a U.S. business trip as questions widened around the Gwangju high school girl murder case.
According to KBS, Yoo arrived through Incheon International Airport early on July 10, 2026, and spoke with reporters. KBS said he apologized to the public over the case, saying, 'I am very sorry for causing concern to the public over this case,' and added, 'I recognize the gravity of the matter.'
KBS reported that Yoo planned to convene a video meeting of the police leadership on the morning of July 10. According to the broadcaster, the meeting was set to discuss response measures related to the so-called Jang Yoon-gi case.
