Heo Sung-beom says he entered gifted high school ranked 8th
SBS reported that Heo Sung-beom discussed his gifted high school admissions process on My Little Old Boy.

SBS reported that Heo Sung-beom appeared on SBS' My Little Old Boy in the episode aired on the 5th, where Heo Kyung-hwan and Kim Jong-min met him. According to the report, Heo Kyung-hwan noted that he and Heo Sung-beom share the Heo surname, while Kim told him, 'For someone who only studied, you are too handsome.'
According to SBS, Heo said that after graduating from university, he is now in a master's program. He said he had never paid the tuition charged when grades fall, adding, 'I attended entirely on scholarships.'
SBS reported that Heo Kyung-hwan then mentioned that Heo Sung-beom had graduated from a gifted high school. Heo said he graduated from Korea Science Academy in Busan and explained that it is a little harder to enter than an ordinary science high school, adding that among the 8 gifted high schools nationwide, his school was the first.
Asked about the school's admissions standards, Heo said there are 3 stages, according to SBS. He said the first stage reviews a self-introduction letter, recommendation letters and school grades, while the second stage includes mathematics and science exams, with the mathematics exam lasting 4 hours and containing only 5 questions.
Heo said applicants pass the mathematics exam if they solve 3 and a half of the questions, SBS reported. He added that the final 3rd stage is a 2-night, 3-day residential process with in-depth interviews, saying, 'They interview you on character, leadership, mathematics and science, and there is also a discussion.'
According to SBS, Heo said around 3~4000 people apply overall and around 200 reach the interview stage, and that he entered ranked 8th among all applicants. When Kim asked him about his secret, Heo replied, 'I liked studying from a young age, and I think I was just somewhat born with it.'
