Plus M Entertainment said Hope crossed 200 ten-thousand viewers at around 1 p.m. that day. Yeon Sang-ho's Colony had reached 200 ten-thousand viewers on the evening of its 5th release day, and Hope broke the shortest-period record among releases this year.
Hope had also reached 100 ten-thousand viewers on its 3rd day of release, the quickest pace among films released this year.
The SF film follows events in Hope Harbor, a fictional village in the Demilitarized Zone, after an unidentified life form appears and devastates the community.
Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon appear in action scenes involving cars, firearms and horseback riding. Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Taylor Russell play extraterrestrial life forms.
Hope was invited to the competition section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival and met audiences around the world first. The film opened in South Korea on July 15.
