Gianna Jun wins NYAFF Extraordinary Star Asia Award
Showbox said Gianna Jun became the first Korean actress to receive the honor, as Colony was selected as this year's NYAFF opening film.

Gianna Jun has received the Extraordinary Star Asia Award at the 25th New York Asian Film Festival, distributor Showbox said on July 13.
Showbox said the award is given to actors who have contributed to the development of Asian cinema. Jun is the first Korean actress to receive the honor, according to the distributor.
NYAFF presents genre films from countries across Asia, and Colony was selected as this year's opening film. Jun attended the festival with director Yeon Sang-ho and said, 'Film is a special kind of work that connects people beyond culture and language. Colony was made with that same feeling, and I am happy to present it to audiences in New York.'
Colony, which opened on May 21, follows isolated survivors inside a building sealed off by an unidentified infection as they fight infected people who evolve in unpredictable forms. Jun led the film as Kwon Se-jeong.
