Shin Ye-eun recalls Doctor on the Edge farewell scene
In an interview for ENA's 12-part drama, Shin Ye-eun discussed the funeral scene between Yook Ha-ri and her grandmother.

Shin Ye-eun looked back on Yook Ha-ri's farewell scene with her grandmother in ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama Doctor on the Edge, according to the report. The report said Shin discussed the scene during an end-of-series interview at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on July 7, the day the 12-part series ended with its final broadcast.
According to the report, Doctor on the Edge is a medical romance about a public health doctor played by Lee Jae-wook who arrives on a remote island avoided by others and a nurse with many secrets played by Shin. In the drama, the report said Yook Ha-ri is shaken after learning that her grandmother Oh Mi-ja, played by Gil Hae-yeon, had given up treatment, then places pasta her grandmother liked in front of the funeral portrait with trembling hands.
Shin said the funeral scene was actually the first one she filmed. 'The moment I faced the funeral portrait, I felt so sad that tears almost poured out,' Shin said, according to the report.
Shin chose the moment when Ha-ri set down the pasta as the scene that stayed with her most. She said she thought food postponed with the words 'let's eat it tomorrow' could become the last one, and that filming the scene helped her understand the relationship between Ha-ri and her grandmother more deeply.
Shin also connected the scene to her own relationship with her grandmother, saying she is very close to her in everyday life, according to the report. 'I have not yet experienced sending away someone I truly love, so I tried to act by imagining it more deeply,' Shin said.
Asked about the restrained expression of grief, Shin said the sadness was already sufficiently inside her. 'Rather than trying to force myself into the emotion, I tried to hold on to the center of Ha-ri as a character,' she said, adding that she wanted to show deep sadness without sobbing.
Shin said she went outside during filming and saw many stars in the sky, according to the report. 'I held the heavy feeling while thinking, Where might our grandmother be now,' she said, and added that the director cried before she did during the shoot and continued crying while editing.
I thought food we put off by saying 'let's eat it tomorrow' could become the last one. Filming that scene helped me understand Ha-ri and her grandmother's relationship more deeply.
