Actor Yoon Hyun-sook spoke about avoiding coffee on an empty stomach during a July 15 appearance on a YouTube channel. She said she stopped drinking espresso coffee after seeing a rise in her cholesterol level.

Yoon said, 'Coffee oil has a lot of fat,' and added, 'I drank espresso coffee for quite a while, but my cholesterol level rose sharply, so I stopped.' She also expressed concern about acquaintances who had made espresso-machine coffee a habit, and said drip coffee can be relatively acceptable because it can filter out oily components.

A paper by Tepstra's team in The Journal of Nutrition, titled Coffee Oil Consumption Does Not Influence Serum Cholesterol in Rhesus and Cebus Monkeys, stated that earlier human studies reported that cafestol and kahweol in coffee oil can raise blood cholesterol levels. For people who need to manage cholesterol, coffee type and intake method were identified as points to watch.

A Whitaker Cardiovascular Institute team at Boston University School of Medicine published Tea and Cardiovascular Disease in Pharmacological Research. The study stated that green tea and black tea are widely consumed safe beverages and have potential cardiovascular benefits, including improved vascular endothelial function, anti-inflammatory effects and anti-platelet effects.

Freshly brewed green tea was described as a reasonable option to consider as part of a dietary approach to preventing heart disease. Starting the day with warm tea instead of strong coffee on an empty stomach was presented as a health-oriented habit.

Coffee oil has a lot of fat. I drank espresso coffee for quite a while, but my cholesterol level rose sharply, so I stopped.
