A changgeuk work will be staged at national theater venues in Japan, KBS reported, citing the Korean Cultural Center in Osaka.

The center said on July 6, 2026 that it will present the work at the National Bunraku Theatre in Osaka on the 9th and at the Grand Theatre of the National Theatre Okinawa on the 13th.

According to the center, the performances are part of a project supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Foundation for International Cultural Exchange.

The center said the National Gugak Center for Namwon is using the performances to introduce Japanese audiences to the contemporary appeal of Korean traditional performing arts.

The center added that the Okinawa performance is its first cultural event directly hosted outside the Kansai region. It said the event offers a chance for Korean pansori and changgeuk figures and people involved in Okinawan traditional performing arts to gather and exchange.

According to KBS, the work is a representative changgeuk newly produced by the National Gugak Center for Namwon based on one of the five pansori works. The production compresses the long narrative of the source pansori work and combines pansori's sound and breathing with music and dance.
