KBS Symphony Orchestra to hold Yeosu Music Festival

The KBS Symphony Orchestra said on July 7 that it will hold the 10th Yeosu Music Festival from August 29 to September 5 at GS Caltex Yeulmaru and other venues across Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.

According to the orchestra, the festival marks its 10th anniversary this year and will feature conductor Chung Myung-whun, pianist Yekwon Sunwoo, other Korean performers and crossover group La Poem.

For the opening concert on August 29, KBS Symphony Orchestra music director Chung Myung-whun will conduct. The orchestra said pianist Kim Sehyeon will perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18, and the program will also present excerpts from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet suite.

At the closing concert on September 5, pianist Yekwon Sunwoo will perform Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op. 23 with the KBS Symphony Orchestra, according to the orchestra. Chung will then appear with graduates of the 10th Yeosu Music Festival Music School for Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73.

The KBS Symphony Orchestra said additional community programs will include a prenatal music concert for pregnant women with Yeosu City and a visiting concert organized in cooperation with the Yeosu Music Association(여수음악협회).

According to the orchestra, tickets for the 10th Yeosu Music Festival will be available through NOL Ticket from July 16.
